Techtextil & Texprocess 2024

NITextile would like to share some relevant topics that it obtained from the Techtextil & Texprocess fair that took place between April 21-26, 2024, in Frankfurt. This event featured more than 1,700 exhibitors from 53 countries, making it one of the biggest events ever after the pandemic.

An event clearly focused on Innovation, Ecology and Economy, which radiated throughout the fair. These types of events serve as platforms for demonstrating solutions, fostering partnerships and networking. The presence of the entire supply chain and several stakeholders facilitates collaboration and innovation.

Despite the depressed business environment in certain segments and recent crises, many companies show diversified portfolios or their presence in more stable markets such as technical textiles (such as health, e-textile, filtration or agriculture) which are more resilient.

This major event showcased countless diverse applications and solutions, from new materials to smart manufacturing technologies, the range of innovations presented clearly highlights the dynamism of the industry. Solutions that meet specific functionality and cost efficiency are the priority, along with sustainability and digitalization. The event also offered examples of regenerative design and what it called “materials of the future”, which aim to go beyond sustainability and move towards regenerative technology.

Sustainability and circularity are key areas of exploration, with many companies actively seeking solutions across the supply chain. Challenges such as complex material mixes and immature recycling technologies require innovative approaches. As well, strategic investments in innovation and partnerships are crucial to navigating current and future disruptions.

Another more emerging topic was Artificial Intelligence, as it represents an opportunity and a challenge for the textile sector, along with digitalization and related technologies for digital transformation. Highlighting current trends and challenges in the fashion industry in relation to traceability and ensuring transparency and ethics in its supply chains, but also concerns about the challenges this entails.

Digital solutions at Texprocess were focused on efficiency and agility in design, manufacturing and supply chain management. On the other hand, automation was focused on increasing speed and flexibility.

Uncertain EU legislation also presents challenges, especially with regard to chemical regulation and environmental reporting requirements. Companies must adapt to evolving regulatory frameworks, ensuring compliance and cost efficiency. Furthermore, new EU regulations and challenges related to digitalization and sustainability highlight the complexity and urgency of the issues facing the industry. While there are exciting advances and opportunities, it is crucial to recognize and address shortcomings to promote truly responsible and ethical fashion.
